We as Americans are taught that we are supposed to live Happy, Healthy, Productive lives. Why? Because it benefits others? Because it makes us easy company?

What of the people who are unhappy by nature? What of the people who care not for idle chatter? What of the people constantly misunderstood? Shall we force them to be content with their lot in life, just because others can be content?

Those who are different than the rest of us, who see the world not as you do but in different colors, shall we scorn them for having different thoughts and feelings than ourselves?

I tell you, a person’s base nature is unchangeable, and no amount of prodding or twisting on your end shall change what is natural and essential to them.

Those who are different than you will never be changed to how you wish them to be, try as you may, and though you may offer honey or spit venom, none of your efforts shall work.
Yet because those who are different cannot help it, they feel shame for not fitting into the cookie cutters our society has created.

In our modern society, to be Healthy is seen as being physically perfect; fit and athletic, a monument to look upon. But as we hone our bodies, we neglect our hearts and minds.

We degrade those who do not look like the airbrushed stars that grace glossy magazine pages, and we exalt those of physical attractiveness while ignoring personality and intelligence, things that are far more recommending of a person.

We are no better than dogs: our ancestors have made glorious works of art and music, and we ignore our world’s heritages to create weak entertainment for weak minds.

To be Productive means to have a well-paying, standard job, to help our Society thrive. But what is thriving is our consumerism and neediness, not the human and cultural aspects of society.

We work for hours upon hours every day in jobs that we hate, sacrificing our dreams of better employment, just to pay for unnecessary things like cable and smartphones and guns.

Yet for all the money we make, for all the riches of our country, we neglect our education, our poor and our homeless.

We are taught to take pride in our country, in the American way, in freedom and democracy, well I tell you, our country is not a democracy but a representative republic. Our country is not free while the American Way, of competition and fighting, reign supreme over cooperation and love.

We scorn those who do not take pride in our country, but what we should not. We should change our country into something to truly take pride in.
My first moralistic letter.

I'm not sure whether to put this under the sub-category "philosophical" or "editorial", but as this is a morally-themed work I'll go with philosophical.
